The Electrolux Oxygen EL500A uses a 3 stage cleaning system to ensure cleaner air, and complete odor removal.
The first stage of the system involves the carbon filter that helps eliminate odors and larger particles that can even be seen with the naked eye, and is recommended to be changed every 90 days.
The second stage uses a high efficiency HEPA filter which captures the microscopic particles which are really what cause allergy and Asthma sufferers severe problems. These microscopic particles include; dust mites, pollen, animal dander, ragweed, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's), skin cells, swine flu virus, and bacteria. The HEPA filter captures 99.7% of all airborne allergens down to .3 microns (300 smaller than the diameter of human hair), and needs to be changed on a yearly basis.
The final stage is the PlasmaWave which uses negative and positive ions that remove any airborne odor causing particles. This process causes no Ozone to be released back into the air. The main HEPA Filter handles the majority of the filtering process.

The Oxygen Ultra includes 1 HEPA filter and 4 carbon filters. The filter indicator light illuminates when the HEPA filter needs to be replaced. Depending on usage of the cleaner, for optimum performance change the carbon filter every three months and the HEPA filter once a year or when the filter indicator light is turned on.
An odor sensor detects odors in the air. Once odor is detected, the fan automatically adjusts the fan speed to begin clearing the air.
PlasmaWave Technology uses postive and negative ions to remove odor causing airborne pollutants. Powerful hydroxyls bond with and neutralize remaining pollutants in the air.
