For this review, we tested the Dyson DC65 Multi Floor upright vacuum cleaner on bare floors, low-pile commercialcarpeting, shag carpeting, and a Berber rug. It arrived in our office already assembled and ready for testing.
The Dyson DC65 upright vacuum cleaner offers an array of ingenious features that impressed even our experienced reviewers. For starters, there is no nozzle release button on this vacuum cleaner. To relax the vacuum from its free-standing upright position, simply pull the suction unit towards you. The back wheels will retract to stay out of your way as you clean. To stand the vacuum up again, simply push it forward until it locks upright. When it is fully upright, airflow will automatically be redirected from the power nozzle to the extension wand, which conveniently stores along the back of the handle.
When fully extended, the DC65's cleaning wand and extension hose gave us a generous 12.5 feet of above-the-floor cleaning range. We used this extension to clean the table tops and counters, but we understand that this makes the DC65 a great tool for cleaning stairs. Simply leave the vacuum cleaner running at the bottom of the staircase, and use the extension hose to clean each step.
Although this extended cleaning range was impressive, our reviewers were especially pleased with the DC65's maneuverability in its standard cleaning mode. Thanks to its nimble ball technology, the DC65 turned on a dime and helped to ensure that we didn't miss a single crumb. The DC65 also astounded us by gliding over our deep-pile carpeting. While many upright vacuum cleaners tend to be difficult to push on shag carpeting, the DC65 glided over it with impressive ease while gathering even stubborn, ground-in debris from its fibers.Of course, the DC65 cleans more than floors and stairs. It comes equipped with two washable filters that work to ensure that the air you breathe is and free of irritating allergens. Its large dustcup seals dust, dirt, and any other debris inside until it is ready to be emptied. When that time comes, simply detach the dustcup from the housing and press a button to open the hatch on its bottom. When we tried this, everything we had collected dropped directly into the trash without creating dust clouds or scattering debris where we had just cleaned. This was a welcome sight for our allergy-prone reviewer, who is typically wary of other bagless cleaners.
This capable vacuum cleaner registered at 73.5 decibels with its brushroll rotating. Bare floor cleaning mode was slightly quieter, registering at around 72 decibels. This noise output is comparable to other residential and commercial upright vacuum cleaners, and is about the average audio volume of a radio or television.
