The Electrolux EL2040A model we had came to us in its original packaging and required some simple assembly. All we had to do was attach its handle to the bottom of the vacuum's frame, which was made especially easy since the handle was already wired to the rest of its frame. This process did require a Phillips head screwdriver. During the assembly process, we realized that the EL2040A is free-standing. This came in especially handy later in the test when we needed to take breaks from vacuuming, but didn't want to prop the vacuum against walls or furniture.
After joining the two pieces, we were all ready to clean. The EL2040A is recommended for use on bare floors, but we found that it cleaned the surface of our low-pile commercial carpeting without trouble. Its head swivels 180 degrees, which made very easy work of cleaning around table and chair legs.

The EL2040A's charging stand also houses a handy 2-in-1 crevice tool and dusting brush, which we later attached to the suction unit for some above-the-floor cleaning. The EL2040A's suction unit detaches easily from the rest of the vacuum to act as a convenient and powerful hand vacuum. This hand unit easily lifted crumbs from table tops and upholstery.
When testing the EL2040A, we were reminded just how convenient it is to have a cordless vacuum on hand whenever a mess appears. While we might not recommend a stick vacuum for big jobs, the EL2040A makes the ideal choice for quick cleanups in between regular vacuuming. And because this EL2040A can be stored on its charging station, it will always be ready to clean whenever you need it to.
