We tested the Electrolux EL8807A Precision Brushroll Clean bagless upright vacuum cleaner on bare floors, low-pile carpeting, and a Berber rug. We do not recommend using this vacuum on deep-pile or shag carpeting.
The EL8807A was quick and easy to assemble right out of the box. All we had to do was attach the handle and insert the cleaning wand into the housing, and we were ready to start cleaning.Thanks to two rotating cord wrap hooks, the EL8807A's power cord releases from the housing without tedious unwrapping. The EL8807A's power button is located on the back side of its canister, right above a carpet/floor toggle switch. It made easy work of removing even ground-in dirt, dust, and crumbs from our low-pile commercial carpeting. When we adjusted the powerhead for different carpet types (via a foot switch on the vacuum's power nozzle), the nozzle visibly raised and lowered itself to suit the surface. A set of lights on the power nozzle will also show you which height it is set to, so you can be sure that you're using the right setting for your surface.
The EL8807A features a handy brushroll clean button, which shears tangled hairs, pet fur, and other fibers from the brushroll. To use this, simply press it down for five seconds while the vacuum cleaner is powered on. If the brushroll should become clogged, a red light on the power nozzle will alert you to that. In this case, a button on the side of the power nozzle will allow you to reset the brush roll, so you can get back to vacuuming right away.
One of our favorite features about the EL8807A is its clear dustcup. This may sound fairly mundane, but a cleardustcup allows you to watch the vacuum's cyclone technology in action and easily see what you've picked up. The latter is especially handy if you should accidentally pick up a lost earring or other small item. A button on the bottom of this dustcup will drop all of its contents into the trashcan cleanly and quickly. This is especially good news for asthma and allergy sufferers, or for anyone who does not want to release dust back into their home after vacuuming.
Speaking of asthma and allergies, the EL8807A utilizes a sealed HEPA filtration system that removes 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns from the air, ensuring that only clean, irritant-free air is released back into your home.
The EL8807A offers onboard storage for its included dusting brush and 3-in-1 Versatool, which can act as a crevice tool, upholstery tool, and handy corner tool. The corner tool configuration is especially useful for cleaning stairs. These attachments can be used on the EL8807A's telescoping cleaning wand, which combines with an extension hose to grant you twelve additional feet of cleaning range.
We were most impressed with the EL8807A's performance on our low-pile commercial carpeting, and were pleased with the amount of dirt, crumbs, and debris it picked up over the course of our short test. As with most uprights, the EL8807A is compact and easy to store, but we are sure that we'll be using it to clean our office again before too long.
