To get the most out of your Sanitaire commercial upright vacuum cleaner, we recommend checking the exhaust and motor filters regularly, as well as cleaning or changing them when they are dirty. This step-by-step blog post will show you how to access each of these filters on the Sanitaire SC9180B and the SC5845B upright vacuums.
Sanitaire SC9180B Commercial Upright Vacuum Cleaner
The SC9180B's HEPA exhaust filter is located on the side of the housing. To remove it, push down on the plastic tab on its top and pull it away from the housing. This filter is washable. For the best clean possible, we recommend spreading its pleats apart to remove dirt from the crevices.
Once it has dried (we recommend waiting twenty-four hours before replacing the filter, just to be safe), slide the filter back in place. Insert the bottom half of the filter into the slots, and push the filter towards the housing until it snaps into place. It may help to hold the plastic tab down until the rest of the filter has been slid into place.
To access the SC9180B's motor filter, open the bag compartment and remove the bag. This can be done whilethe power cord is still wrapped around the housing.

The motor filter is located at the bottom of the bag chamber. It is held in place by a plastic grid.Remove the filter and clean or change it as necessary. After it has dried for 24 hours, replace the filter with the grid side down. It will click when it is back in its proper position.
Sanitaire SC5845B Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner
Like the SC9180B, the SC5845B's exhaust filter can be found on the side of the housing. To remove it, press down on its plastic tab and pull it toward you. This filter is washable. We recommend waiting twenty-four hours after washing before it is replaced.When that time comes, slide the exhaust filter's pegs into the two slots in the bottom of the housing and push the top of the filter away from you. For the best fit, hold down the plastic tab on top of the filter and release pressure once it has slid into place.
To change the SC5845B's motor filter, remove the dust cup from the front of the housing. Twist off the top of the dust cup to access the cylindrical filter inside.Pull the motor filter from the dust cup. We recommend waiting twenty-four hours after washing the filter before replacing it. Once it has fully dried, slide it back into place and reassemble the dust cup.
