How to Change Miele Canister Motor Filter


Behind the Miele FJM self-closing, cloth bag sits the motor filter. In order to release it from its housing, you must pull forward on the red plastic protective casing. Once you do that, you are free to remove the dust compartment filter and cut out a new filter by simply following the scissor lines.


To replace, simply take your freshly cut motor filter and place it behind the red plastic protective casing. Once in place, push gently on the filter housing to adjust it to its proper upright position.

The charcoal Miele SF-AA50 Active AirClean 50 Filter can be easily located at the center of the interior housing once you pull up on the dust compartment lid release. To remove, gently pull up on the charcoal handles and the top cover should open up to reveal the AirClean filter. Same as the motor filter, remove the old exhaust filter and cut out a new one by following the scissor lines.


Take your freshly cut filter and place it where the old one used to sit. After that, close the top of the filter housing and press down firmly so that the filter stays in place. Lastly, close up the canister.

1. Open Filter Housing and Dispose of Filter
The charcoal Miele SF-AA50 Active AirClean 50 Filter can be found once you gently pull open the exhaust filter compartment located on the motor head. To remove, use your thumb and forefinger to coax the filter out of its slide-in spot. Once out, gently pull up on the charcoal handles and top cover should open up to reveal the AirClean filter. Same as with the motor filter, remove the old exhaust filter and cut out a new one by following the scissor lines.


Take your freshly cut filter and place it where the old one used to sit. After that, close the top of the filter housing and press down firmly so that the filter stays in place. Lastly, slide the charcoal filter back into the exhaust filter compartment and shut the compartment door.
