1. Open Filter Housing and Dispose of Filter
The charcoal Miele SF-AA50 Active AirClean 50 Filter can be easily located at the center of the interior housing once you pull up on the dust compartment lid release. To remove, gently pull up on the charcoal handles and the top cover should open up to reveal the AirClean filter. Same as the motor filter, remove the old exhaust filter and cut out a new one by following the scissor lines.

Every Miele vacuum you purchase comes with an optional HEPA filter. A HEPA filter is capable of trapping extremely small, micron-sized particles. To be more precise, a HEPA filter can trap 99.95 percent of dust and allergens that commonly pollute your air. It is best to replace your HEPA filter once a year.
1. Remove Active AirClean 50 filter
Once you opened up the interior housing, pull firmly on the charcoal filter to release it from its holder.
2. Insert HEPA Filter
Remove the HEPA filter from its box and place it in the designated compartment. Make sure you press down firmly so that the filter stays in place. You should hear a few clicking noises when you insert it.
3. Activate Exhaust Filter Change Indicator
The exhaust filter changer indicator lets you know when you need to change your exhaust filter. Similar to driving, a green light means you're good to go while a red light means you must stop and replace. To activate, press the green button located on the frontward side of the Miele SF-HA50 HEPA AirClean Filter. Once that's done, close up the interior housing of your canister.
