How to Open an Electrolux Metal Canister Vacuum Cleaner
Opening an Electrolux metal canister vacuum allows you to access the motor, cord winder, and internal components for maintenance or repair. Follow these steps carefully to avoid damaging the housing.
Step 1: Remove the Top Cover
- Open the blower vent located on the top of the vacuum.
- Remove the two screws located beneath the blower vent.
- Remove the two screws at the front of the vacuum cleaner.
- Lift off the top cover and set it aside.
Step 2: Remove the Cord Winder Assembly
- Locate the two screws near the cord winder on the top of the vacuum.
- Remove these screws.
- Turn the vacuum over and remove the single screw on the bottom side that secures the cord winder.
- Carefully pull the cord winder assembly out of the vacuum.
Step 3: Access the Motor
With the cord winder removed, the motor will be fully visible.
To remove the motor:
- Locate the four mounting bolts, one at each corner of the motor assembly.
- Remove all four bolts.
- Carefully lift out the motor for inspection, replacement, or service.
Step 4: Access the Control Valve (If Needed)
If your Electrolux vacuum constantly indicates a full bag even when the bag has been changed, the control valve may need to be replaced.
To access the control valve:
- Open the bag compartment door.
- Remove the four screws securing the bag door assembly.
- Carefully separate the components to access and replace the control valve.
