We've written quite a few articles on the Miele Complete C3 Kona canister vacuum cleaner. It earned a spot on our list of the best bagged vacuum cleaners. It's been mentioned on our list of Mohawk-approved soft carpet vacuum cleaners. It has been recognized across the site as one of the most powerful canister vacuums we carry, but until now, we haven't highlighted it in a product review. To remedy this, we took the Kona across our high-traffic office lobby, testing it on low-pile carpeting, shag carpeting, bare floors, and a Berber rug.
The Kona's electronic canister display shows you which of its six suction power settings it is set to, and switcheson either side of the display allow you to change between them as needed. Also on the Kona's canister are its cord rewind button and power button.
Turning the Kona on was a surprisingly quiet experience. Initially, its quiet startup made us question whether the vacuum was actually running. This vacuum is equipped with Miele's 1200 watt Vortex motor, which, although powerful, operates with a noise output level of just 60.5 decibels. This is justabove the volume of a typical conversation, and is far lower than the average vacuum cleaner's noise output. (Most vacuum cleaners register at around 70 decibels.)This level means that you can hold a conversation without having to yell over the machine.
A switch on the Kona's handle allows you to easily change between carpeting and bare floor cleaning modes. The change is marked by a slight increase in volume as the brushroll engages. Switching to carpet mode increases the Kona's cleaning power, and increases its
noise output to around 65 decibels. This noise output is comparable to that of a busy restaurant, and is still below the average vacuum cleaner's reading.
Thanks to its power nozzle, the Kona makes an ideal vacuum for homes with bare floors, deep shag carpeting, and every surface in between. The included Miele ElectroPluspower nozzle features five variable height adjustment settings, which can be manipulated using the foot pedal on its back. And because the power nozzle features a generous 13.5-inch cleaning path, we were able to covermore floor space in a shorter time frame. The Kona quickly and capably removed dirt and debris from our low-pile commercial carpeting, bare floors, and Berber rug. The Kona is also one of the most maneuverable machines we have ever tested on our shag carpeting. Where some vacuums have gotten stuck in the past, theKona glided easily over the surfacewhile reaching deep in the fibers to extract dirt and debris. team's go-to benchmarks for testing avacuum's cleaning power.When our cleaning was done, we opened up the hood to see what we had collected. All of the dust and debris we extracted from our carpets was trapped inside the self-locking Miele GN dustbag, and even our dust-sensitive reviewer felt confident removing it from its chamber. Once the vacuum was closed up, its light weight made it easy to transport into storage. Although the power nozzle is free-standing, we recommend turning the height adjustment down to its lowest setting for more stability while in storage. This way, you can be sure the Kona will be standing at attention the next time you need to vacuum.
