Pricey yet powerful, the Miele Marin and Miele Brilliant are two high-end canister vacuums that make up Miele's Complete C3 series. Very alike but also very different, it's easy to find yourself in a pickle when trying to decipher the differences between these two vacuums.

So lets start with the similarities. Both vacuums are constructed out of high-impact ABS plastic —the same material used to create helmets for the NFL, and both vacuums come equipped with a large, 1200-watt Vortex motor that provides powerful suction and brushroll rotation for agitating carpet. Internally, both the Miele Marin and Miele Brilliant come armed with one Miele SF-HA50 HEPA AirClean Filter and one Miele Type GN Bag. The former removes 99.95% of allergen-causing particles down to 0.3 microns in size while the latter holds 4.76 quarts of dirt tightly inside a self-closing filter bag. Maintaining superior indoor air quality is a cinch thanks to these two items!
Drawing our attention back to the exterior, both the Miele Marin and Brilliant come armed with features well-known to all Miele canister vacuums that make up the Complete C3 series, such as the one-touch automatic cord rewind system, convenient carry handle, and three tools stored underneath the ABS plastic lid. These features, although small in comparison to all Miele is capable of, helps create an environment where the user can bend less and therefore execute a great vacuuming session free of physical stress or strain.

Moving on to the differences, the first major difference has to do with the digital suction control panel. The Marin has its control panel on the face of the canister while the Brilliant is the only Miele canister vacuum armed with "fingertip controls". While some may not find it a problem to adjust the +/- buttons on the canister with a tap of their foots others may find this too cumbersome preferring a hand-operated system. Secondly, only the Brilliant features bright LED underbody lights that illuminates hidden debris as you vacuum. If the power ever goes out while you're vacuuming, you're going to be thanking the German-engineers for this feature! Third, only the Brilliant comes equipped with a 360-degree velvet-lined bumper strip to protect your vacuum from unsightly collisions. The Marin comes with a rubberized bumper strip as well, but no velvet can be found. This feature is more for aesthetics if anything else.
What is not aesthetics is the type of floor tool that goes along with each vacuum. The Miele Marin comes standard with the Miele SBB300-3 Parquet Twister Brush while the Miele Brilliant arms itself with the slightly larger Miele SBB400-3 Parquet Twister XL floor brush. The latter offers a jaw-dropping 16-inch cleaning path while the former boasts the standard 12-inch cleaning path. The larger floor tool allows you to clean faster— which can make a world of difference when you're in a rush.
