Miele Olympus Product Review

The Miele Classic C1 Olympus is a powerful, lightweight, and streamlined canister vacuum cleaner. Assembly went quickly and smoothly; all we had to do was attach its handle, telescoping cleaning wand, and floor brush to its hose, and attach its hose to its canister. With a bag and Miele AirClean filter already installed, we were ready to start vacuuming less than five minutes after removing the Olympus from its box.

The lightweight Olympus is easy to carry up and downstairs. Thanks to three caster wheels on its underside, the Olympus can rotate 360 degrees. This made for very convenient handling as we vacuumed throughout our office. The Olympus's included tools-- upholstery tool, dusting brush, and crevice tool-- easily attach to its included tool caddy, which in turn attaches to the base of the Olympus's hose or top of the handle. This gives you the option as to where you'd like to store your tools, and works just as well as any on-board tool storage system that more expensive vacuum cleaners might offer.

All of the Olympus's controls are located on its canister. Its six-setting suction control dial is labelled with pictographs that denote quiet operation, carpet, bare floor, area rug, drapes, and upholstery settings. Below this dial are the Olympus's power button and cord retract buttons. Both of these can be easily operated by foot. A foot pedal on the Olympus's floor brush (which also features handy pictographs) allows you to raise or lower its brush bar for switching between carpeting and bare floors. We find that the Olympus works best on hardwood and other bare floor types. For homes with carpets, we recommend using Miele models with electronic power nozzles, such as the C1 Delphi or C2 Topaz

When our vacuuming was done, we were impressed with how quickly the Olympus's power cord retracted. Unlike some other vacuum cleaners we've tried, this cord retracted easily in spite of being slightly coiled. For compact storage, the Olympus's cleaning wand hooks into its underside.

We also took a look inside the Olympus when we finished cleaning. Our bag was not full yet (if it were, the Olympus's indicator would have alerted us), but we decided to try changing it anyway. Its spring-loaded, self-closing dust bag was easy to change, and much to the relief of our dust-sensitive reviewer, did not release any of the particles it had captured as we handled it. The Olympus's default AirClean filter works well for homes non-allergy households. If allergies are a concern in your house, it can easily accommodate a Miele SF-HA30 HEPA AirClean filter.
