When our office needs some tidying up, there's no shortage of vacuum cleaners for us to choose from. Today, we tasked the Miele Dynamic U1 Twist upright vacuum cleaner with cleaning up our break room. Here, there are tables, chairs, and other obstacles to navigate as we clean crumbs, dirt, paper scraps and other debris from the carpet.
The first thing we noticed about the Miele Twist is its outstandingly sturdy construction. We can't think of any better way to put it than that we could simply feel this vacuum's quality when we picked it up. Its ergonomic handlereduces wrist strain, which made for an incredibly pleasant vacuuming experience. Its power button and floor/carpet toggle switch are located within easy reach onthe handle's front. The Twist's user-friendly suction control dial is located on the front of the housing, and features four labelled suction settings (deep pile carpeting, low pile carpeting, bare floors, and drapes) for the appropriate cleaning strength on each surface.
The Twist's solid construction was enough to convince us that the Twist is a high-quality vacuum cleaner, but its real selling points are its cleaning capabilities, generous cleaning range, and incredible maneuverability. The Twist features non-marring rubber coated wheels that glide over both carpeting and hard wood floors without causing damage. (We don't have soft carpeting in our office, but if you have some in your home, the Twist made Mohawk.com's list of recommended soft carpet vacuum cleaners !) Its powerful brushroll makes easy work of removing even stubborn debris from low- to medium-pile carpeting. Thanks to the Twist's convenient handle buttons, we found that the brushroll is very easy to turn on and off as we moved between carpeting and hardwood floors. When moving between different surface types, the Miele Twist self-adjusts to the proper cleaning height, which took all the guesswork out of our cleaning experience.
We were very impressed with the Twist's edge-cleaning capabilities. In just one pass, it captured all the dust bunnies and debris that had gathered along the walls in our break room. This incredible feature is the result of strategically-placed suction channels that allow for incredible cleaning in corners and along walls and baseboards.
The back of the Twist provides storage slots for its upholstery brush, hardwood floor brush, and 12" crevice tool. Its slinky hose extends to a generous 12 feet, and a telescoping cleaning wand on its end can be extended for even more cleaning range. This combination made it simple to vacuum along the tops of walls and even up to the ceiling. The cleaning wand can accommodate any of the Twist's included tools, which are always close by because they are stored right in the back of the unit.
The Twist's 39 foot power cord allowed us incredible cleaning range. When we did the math, the cord, extension hose, and cleaning wand combined gave us a very generous 59 foot cleaning radius. This was more than enough range to clean our entire break room, lobby, and entryway without needing to change power outlets. We were concerned that the Twist's extra long power cord might get in our way when vacuuming, but that simply wasn't the case. The Twist's handle features a convenient hook that keeps the cord from interfering as you clean.
The Twist is aptly named; it maneuvers so effortlessly that vacuuming feels less like a chore and more like a dance. Its Swivel Neck technology allows 360º steering capability, and navigates easily around table and chair legs, and its low-profile cleaning head makes reaching under low furnishings easier than ever. If clearance is especially limited, we found that the Twist can even be laid flat to the floor.
If the Twist's bag should need changing after you're done vacuuming, the particles you just captured while cleaning will be trapped inside the Twist's self-sealing, spring-loaded, anti-allergy cloth dustbags. We found that changing the bag was very simple. And, as it promises, the dustbag does not release any irritating dust and other debris when you go to dispose of it. Even our dust-sensitive reviewer felt confident changing and disposing of this dustbag.
When not in use, the Twist can stand on its own without needing support from a
wall or furniture. Returning the Twist to its free-standing upright position is as simple as pushing its suction unit forward towards its power nozzle until it clicks. Its power cord wraps easily around two hooks on the back of the unit (one of them is the same convenient handle hook that keeps the cord off the floor as you vacuum) for tidy storage.Cleaning our office with the Miele Twist afforded us the rare combination of powerful cleaning capabilities, great maneuverability, and a truly enjoyable vacuuming experience.
