Miele Vacuum Cleaner Videos

While we love writing product reviews, we believe that a picture-- or, in this case, a video-- is worth a thousand words. We can tell you over and over again about the impressive performance of our Miele vacuum cleaners, but we've decided that it might be time to demonstrate some of their features and capabilities in some short product videos. For this brief series, we let the Miele Twist, Onyx, and Swing vacuum cleaners show off their best moves.

This upright vacuum cleaner features Miele's patented SwivelNeck technology, which grants it unrivaled maneuverability on any surface type. To demonstrate this, we drove the Twist in a wavy line across our deep shag carpeting. While some of our vacuum cleaners have trouble maneuvering in a straight line over this deep carpet, the Twist skated easily over the surface while extracting dirt from its depths. It also fluffed and rejuvenated the fibers, which is one of our product review team's benchmarks for great performance.

The Twist is powerful enough to deep-clean shag carpeting, but it is also gentle enough to clean our delicate Berber rug. As the video demonstrates, it easily picked up ground-in fibers from its surface in just one full pass.

You might think that this powerful vacuum cleaner would create some powerful noise. While this is true of other vacuums, Miele's unique sound-dampening motor housing means that even this powerful vacuum cleaner has a lower-than-average noise output. While the average vacuum cleaner clocks in somewhere around 70 decibels, the Twist hovered consistently around 64.5. To put this in perspective, this is about the noise output level of a busy office or restaurant.

Among the Twist's other notable features are its self-sealing cloth dustbag (a big plus for allergy and asthma sufferers) and a four-setting suction control dial, which allows you to customize airflow for cleaning curtains, low-pile carpeting, deep-pile carpeting, and smooth floors.

The Miele Onyx grants you powerful suction in a compact and lightweight package. Its included upholstery tool, dusting brush, and crevice nozzle store easily on its attachable tool caddy. This caddy gives you the option of storing these attachments on the unit or to keep them elsewhere for a sleeker profile. Regardless where you choose to store the caddy, it will keep all three attachments securely attached to its base until you need them. This canister also allows you to choose where you'd like to store its cleaning head when the vacuum is not in use. The Onyx has three niches-- one on either side of the canister, and one in the back-- that can accommodate the head for more compact storage. This is especially handy because the cleaning head is not free-standing, and would otherwise need to be leaned against a wall or furniture to remain upright while in storage.

The Onyx does not use a power nozzle, but it grants you powerful suction on both bare floors and carpeting anyway. To demonstrate this, we spilled sugar on our carpeting once again and let the Onyx clean it up. It easily picked up most of our mess in just one quick pass. This test proved to us that the Onyx provides powerful suction on low-pile carpeting, but that's not all this punchy little vacuum is capable of cleaning. On its canister is a six-setting suction control dial, which lets you adjust airflow to the proper setting for cleaning drapes, upholstery, area rugs, carpeting, and bare floors. The sixth setting-- demarcated by an ear-- is the whisper-quiet Silent Mode, which registered at only 54.5 decibels on our noise output reader. This level is comparable to that of a relaxed conversation, so you'll be able to communicate without shouting over the vacuum.

The Swing is the only stick vacuum cleaner currently available from Miele, and we think it is one of the most convenient and user-friendly stick vacuums around. For starters, the Swing only has one switch across its whole body. This sliding switch acts as both the power switch and suction control dial for a truly clear-cut vacuuming experience. On its maximum suction setting, the Swing easily cleaned spilled sugar from our carpeting in just one pass. This incredible suction is tough to come by in a stick vacuum cleaner, but we're pleased to say that the Swing has the power to clean messes all over your home.

The Swing is also light enough to be used as a hand vacuum cleaner, and includes attachments for cleaning upholstery and tight nooks and crannies. To use these, simply remove the cleaning head and replace it with an accessory of your choice. The Swing will be ready to clean where larger, heavier upright vacuum cleaners can't.

Like its fellow Miele vacuum cleaners, the Swing features a lower-than-average noise output. Our decibel reader clocked it at an average of 67.5 decibels, which is slightly lower than the average listening volume of a radio or television.
