Schools Receive $81 Billion to Reopen

Schools Receive $81 Billion to Reopen

School buildings are reopening across the country with an urgency to update their cleaning equipment. Many schools are working diligently to ensure they have the masks,  protective equipment, and cleaning supplies they need to reopen.

On March 24, 2021, President Biden announced $81 billion in immediate funding to states for school reopening during the National School Reopening Summit. This funding will remain available to schools through September 30, 2022.

The Covid-19 relief law that provides this funding specifically lists investments in cleaning programs that will help schools mitigate infection outbreaks and open safely during the pandemic.

Covid-19 requires that schools take safety precautions to protect students, faculty and staff. Bob Gleason, New England Regional Manager at IPC Eagle, explains, "Part of the re-opening process for schools is getting (and staying) clean. There is funding available for schools to hire and outfit cleaning staff with the equipment they need."

The money will help custodial and maintenance departments prepare for reopening and train additional staff on proper cleaning techniques:

  • Training staff on the best ways to sanitize schools and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Purchasing PPE and the supplies needed to clean and disinfect schools Purchasing PPE and the supplies needed to clean and disinfect schools
