For this product review, we tested the SEBO AIRBELT K3 canister vacuum cleaner on low-grade commercial carpeting, a Berber rug, deep-pile shag carpeting, and a small section of bare flooring.
The sleek K3 features an all-around Lycra bumper prevents damage to your vacuum, walls and furniture as the K3 canister rolls along. Feeling daring, we pushed the canister into walls and went out of our way to snag it on furniture as we cleaned. We are pleased to report that our walls and furniture and the K3 emerged from the test without a single scratch between them. Not only that, but the canister bumper is rather stylish. In our opinion, the canister bumper only helps add to the K3's already incredible durability. Its neck is reinforced with titanium, and will recline without damage if its user forgets to use its foot release pedal. Its geared belt is made of Kevlar®, so you can feel confident that it will outlast any cleaning tasks thrown its way. (Just in case, the belt is backed with a five year warranty.)
Combining the length of its cord with its telescopic cleaning wand, the K3 offers a generous 37-foot cleaning radius. We were able to fully clean two rooms without once needing to change power outlets. When combined with an extension hose and SEBO handheld Turbo Brush, the K3 makes a great tool for cleaning multi-level homes. Simply leave the canister at the bottom of the stairs and use the hose to clean wherever dirt appears. Even without these attachments, however, the K3's compact design and rubber feet allow it to perch neatly on stair treads for easy cleaning.
Some vacuum cleaners we've encountered in the past have had difficulty maneuvering over shag carpeting. On one such occasion, one reviewer remarked that she could skip her next trip to the gym, because pushing certain vacuum cleaners over deep-pile carpeting was enough of a workout for her. This same reviewer was pleasantly surprised when she tried the K3 on the same shag carpet. The K3's suction power can be manipulated via a sliding switch on its handle. Brushroll height is controlled with a four-setting dial on the K3's power nozzle. When the brushroll is set to the improper height for the task at hand, an orange light will alert you to that. In order to find the proper setting for your individual floor types, we recommend starting on the highest setting and slowly adjusting downward until the orange light disappears.
Despite all these surprising and unique features, what we were perhaps most impressed by was the K3's whisper-quiet operation. When we first started up the vacuum, we were unsure whether or not it was actually running. It starts gently and quietly, but provides the same great suction power as some of its louder counterparts.
We test a wide range of vacuum cleaners around here, but once in a while, we encounter one that really stands out.
