The SEBO Essential G5's durable, hard plastic housing is designed to stand up to the daily demands of commercial cleaning. A toggle switch on the G5's handle controls the power, but all other controls are on the G5's power nozzle. A four-setting height adjustment dial allowed us to change the power head's height for proper cleaning on bare floors, low-pile carpeting, a Berber rug, and a shag rug. The G5's maneuverability on the shag rug was especially remarkable. Powerful suction and a wide cleaning path made quick work of cleaning the deep area rug, and we were pleasantly surprised by the ease with which the G5 glided across the surface.
It is not common for us to spend so much time talking about a vacuum cleaner's power head, but the G5's warrants some extra attention. The L-shaped nozzle grants the G5 a wide, fifteen-inch cleaning path, so operators can clean a wider area in a shorter amount of time. When this is combined with the G5's 40-foot power cord, we were able to clean a wide area quickly and without changing power outlets.
For easy above-the-floor cleaning, the G5's extension wand instantly provides suction power when it is removed from the housing. The G5's included upholstery tool, extra-long crevice nozzle, and triangular dusting brush all store on the housing for quick access during cleaning. The upholstery tool was especially helpful for cleaning cubicle walls, and the extra length of the crevice nozzle made it easy to reach a cobweb that had appeared along the ceiling. Returning the extension wand to its slot restores full suction power to the cleaner head, so we were able to get back to vacuuming the floors right away.
As commercial vacuum cleaners go, the G5 is one of the more user-friendly models we have encountered. With an operating volume of just 69 decibels, the G5 falls at the lower end of the commercial vacuum cleaner noise output spectrum. In fact, this volume is about the same as some of SEBO's residential vacuum cleaners. The G5 is also especially easy to maintain. A quick-release hatch on the power nozzle allowed us easy access to the brushroll chamber, and a front bag hatch allows for easy, "no-bend" access to the filter and dustbag. With that in mind, we readily recommend this SEBO Essential G5 for commercial cleaners or those in search of a commercial-grade cleaner for their homes.
