Bought it to muffle- I stood there with vacuum on without it in place -then put it on. Could not find any difference in decibels with several repeated comparisons. Maybe it decreases the high pitch sound as advertised with other units but not mine. I’m keeping it only because it was inexpensive and will probably keep some dust from motor.

This fits over the vent holes on top of the central vacuum motor unit. I was skeptical at first if it would reduce the noise from the motor so I temporary installed it and turned on the vacuum. I would say it muffled out about 50% of the noise. Good enough for me and my neighbors. I painted it black to match my central vacuum. Decent part for the price.
