The Airpura UV600 air purifier combines True HEPA particle filtration, activated carbon, and an internal UV-C germicidal lamp. It is designed for indoor spaces where airborne dust, pollen, mold spores, household odors, and airborne chemicals are concerns.
HEPA, Carbon, and UV-C Treatment
Airpura lists four stages in the standard UV600 configuration: a vacuumable poly prefilter, an 18-pound activated carbon filter, a True HEPA filter, and a UV-C lamp. The standard carbon filter uses 100% coconut-shell activated carbon in a 2-inch bed to adsorb airborne chemicals, gases, and odors.
The True HEPA filter contains 40 square feet of media and is rated by Airpura to capture 99.97% of airborne particles at least 0.3 microns in size. The UV-C lamp adds a treatment stage within the purifier. Particle capture and UV treatment are different processes; neither should be interpreted as a guarantee that a room is sterile or that illness will be prevented.
Adjustable Airflow and Room Sizing
Variable-speed control lets you adjust airflow for your space. Airpura lists a 560 CFM free-flow fan rating, which is not a measured filtered clean-air delivery rate (CADR). The manufacturer suggests coverage up to 2,000 square feet at two air exchanges per hour, based on 8-foot ceilings. Actual results depend on the room layout, fan setting, placement, and pollutant sources.
The UV600 has 360-degree air distribution, a powder-coated steel housing, and casters for repositioning. Airpura lists the machine as 23 inches high by 15 inches wide. These are appliance dimensions, not shipping-carton dimensions. The manufacturer lists no ozone emissions; this is not a blanket safety or disease-prevention claim.
Filter and Lamp Maintenance
Airpura’s published replacement guidance is approximately 12 months for the poly prefilter, 24 months for the standard carbon filter, three to five years for the True HEPA filter, and 18–24 months for the UV-C lamp. Replacement needs vary with use and pollutant loading. Follow the owner’s manual for cleaning and servicing.
Impregnated carbon and Super HEPA 14 filters are listed as optional upgrades by the manufacturer. They are not represented as included in this standard UV600 listing.
Understanding the Performance Research
Airpura commissioned a November 2015 engineering report by Dr. Wladyslaw Kowalski of Aerobiological Engineering, LLC, evaluating combined HEPA filtration and UV treatment. Computer modeling predicted average pathogen removal exceeding 99.99% under the conditions analyzed. This is a modeled result for the Airpura disinfection unit evaluated in the report, not a verified performance percentage for every UV600 configuration or occupied room, and it does not demonstrate prevention of influenza or gastroenteritis.
