For this review, we tested the Miele Classic C1 Delphi canister vacuum cleaner on a section of tile, low-pile commercial carpeting, and a Berber rug. We do not recommend the Delphi for homes with shag or other high-pile carpets.
Assembling the Delphi was quick and easy, and did not require any additional tools. All we had to do was connect the extension hose to the canister, and connect the extension wand to the power nozzle and handle. We were ready to vacuum within moments after removing it from its box. At just 18 inches long and 11.25 inches wide, the Delphi is perfectly compact. It weighs only 12 pounds, and is especially easy to carry upstairs or across wide areas for spot cleaning. For additional ease of transport and compact storage, the extension wand slides into a niche on the Delphi's underside.
The Delphi features a quiet startup and, with the brushroll on, has a maximum volume of just 65 decibels. This iscomparable to the volume of a busy office. When the brushroll is switched off, the Delphi registered only 58.5 decibels. This low volume allowed us to hold a conversation and listen to the radio as we vacuumed.
Even though it operates at a low volume, the Delphi doesn't compromise on suction power. It removed ground-in sugar from our Berber rug in just one pass, and easily picked up the dirt, paper scraps, and other debris that littered our low-pile commercial carpet. A simple turn of the Delphi's six-setting suction control dial was all that was needed to switch between floor types or from floor to upholstery mode.
We also used the Delphi's included dusting brush, crevice tool, and upholstery nozzle to clean some of our reviewers' office spaces. The crevice tool made quick work of removing debris from the narrow spaces between desks and walls, and the upholstery tool was excellent on our computer chairs and cubicle walls. We also used the dusting brush to rustle some dirt from the seams in desks, and we are happy to say that it worked exactly as intended.
