A good central vacuum. I've had NuTone, Broan, Beam and VacuFlo over the years. All have been good as well. the Eureka has the most power of my previous ones, except for the Beam. I can't say it's quiet, by any means, but it's not bad. And being in the garage, the noise is not noticeable in the rest of the house. My biggest gripe is the "self-cleaning" "Triumph filter". It's similar to the self cleaning filter I had on the Beam unit. However, don't believe them when they say it's self cleaning, it truly not. Yes, when the bag filter falls down when the machine is turned off, some of the debris coating does fall off. However, especially when there is fine material being collected like baking soda carpet cleaner or drywall dust. the filter does clog at the pore level and suction does fall off. I've found three messy ways to clean the filter. 1.) Put a trash bag over the filter and shake the daylights out of it. 2.) Use a shop vac and vacuum the dirt off and 3.) take it out of the unit and wash it. So, the point is, this is dinosauric. A modern central vac shouldn't have to be cleaned. As far as cleaning, by far the superior system is the cyclonic central vac, as I had in my VacuFlo, it didn't matter what you sucked up, ashes, baking soda, drywall dust, etc. Nothing phased it and suction never fell off. Once a year I did stick a refrigerator coil brush up into the screen that protected the motor from large debris particles. But this was much easier than the continual messy cleaning of the Broan, Beam and Eureka cloth "self-cleaning" filter. I rather wish I had taken my VacuFlo with me when I sold my previous house. With that being said, I like this Eureka model, it's powerful and it's also aesthetically a good looking machine. Best of all I've had in this regard and actually adds to the look of the garage instead of taking away. So my advice, get a self-cleaning non-filtered cyclonic and vent it outside. If you can't do this, then this Eureka is a great unit. Just be prepared for a regular messy cleaning of the filter. If you just vacuum typical household dirt you may have to clean the filter only a couple of times a year. If you use a powder carpet cleaner or refresher, or use your central vac to clean your garage and vacuum sawdust and drywall, then be prepared to clean the filter often. When I sand drywall, I hook the hose ukp to the dust outlet of the sander (it's made for this) and it does a wonderful job of keeping drywall dust down and not being spread all over everything in the house. But to protect your central vac, be sure to clean this joke of a self cleaning filter, as it will clog on the pore level and reduced airflow is going to reduce performance and is hard on the motor, On the bagged NuTone unit I had, I had to put a new bad in every time I did drywall work. So I dislike this because of the expense. However, the bag units are the neatest and cleanest when it comes to emptying them. The downside, full power suction is reduce from the first time you use and is progressively reduced every time you use it, until you replace the bag. With the cyclonic, suction is full, always really small particles that don't get caught by the cyclonic separation are expelled outdoors through the units exhaust. Empting the dirt container on any unit is a mess, so I always take it outdoors and dump it so I am not breathing in the clouds of dust you get while emptying the unit. I hear the new VacuMaids have cyclonic separation and are able to use a trash bag in the collection container. This will be my next central vac as it gives the best of all world's.
